DEEP OCEAN WATER OVERVIEW

What is Hawaii Deep Ocean Water?

The deep oceans surrounding the islands of Hawaii is a pure and clean source of water. Hawaii Deep Ocean Water is harvested from the uncontaminated depths of the ocean and desalinated. Hawaiian Deep Ocean Water is an ancient, inexhaustible, and mineral-rich source of drinkable water with multiple applications.

Where did Hawaii Deep Ocean Water come from?

Over a thousand years ago, water at the earth's poles froze, leaving denser colder water to sink to the depths of the ocean. This Deep Ocean Water travels the bottom of ocean towards the equator to replace water being evaporated from the surface at a rate of approximately 1 cm/day; a process referred to as the "Deep Ocean Water Conveyor."

Why is Hawaii Deep Ocean Water so pure?

Hawaii Deep Ocean Water is pumped from beneath the thermocline.

Our oceans are divided into three identifiable regions.

The surface, or euphotic zone, is generally identified as the top 100 meters and represents the mixed uppermost layer which experiences direct interaction with the atmosphere and surface activity.

From approximately 100 to between 300 and 500 meters, lies the thermocline, which is subject to fluctuations from tidal influences and internal waves.

Below the thermocline exists the depths of the ocean, which are not influenced through any manner of surface phenomena. In Hawaiian waters, this Deep Ocean Water exists primarily below 500 meters, originated from around Antarctica, and has traversed thousands of miles along the bottom of the Pacific Basin over thousands of years.

Why is Hawaii Deep Ocean Water so rich in minerals and nutrients?

Because of the availability of sunlight in the surface layers, a majority of the biological activity of the ocean occurs in the euphotic zone. The lack of sunlight in the deep ocean makes photosynthesis and other biological activities less likely, thereby making the untouched Deep Ocean Water nearly 50% more enriched than the surface Ocean Water.

This phenomenon, coupled with the extreme cold temperatures and pressures experienced at depth, leaves little opportunity to support non-photosynthetic life - including bacteria and viruses.

Therefore, void of most life and with virtually no interaction or mixing with the upper layers, Deep Ocean Water is nutrient enriched and effectively void of natural pathogens, hormones and chemical contamination from human interaction. These characteristics allow deep Ocean Water to be stored for several years if not exposed to UV.
